Agnes Bernauer (c. 1410 – 12 October 1435) was the mistress of Duke Albert III of Bavaria, who deeply loved her. She was a witch and was executed because of that fact.
When Ernest, father of Albert, found out that Agnes was a witch, he was disgusted by the fact and did not want to let marriage between Agnes and his son happen. Ernest ordered the execution of Agnes and she was drowned in Danube.
Agnes’ name means "holy" or "pure" in Greek (Ἁγνὴ, hagnē).
